A Deep Wound: Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church

February 25, 2021

On Friday February 26th, 2021 The Centre for Safeguarding Minors and Vulnerable Persons at St. Paul’s University in Ottawa will host a webinar entitled “A Deep Wound: Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church.”

The event will be held from 12:00 – 1:15 p.m. EST. The session will open 15 minutes before the beginning of the webinar. The webinar can be viewed here: https://ustpaul.adobeconnect.com/cp-cs-webinar-webinaire/

“The presentation will have two parts. First, that of the long-lasting wounds caused by priests’ sexual abuse of children, to which is grafted the question of forgiveness that is too often demanded of victims/survivors. Then the aspect of the social and ecclesial factors leading to these abuses and their concealment, particularly with regard to the vision of sexuality in the Church.”

Dr. Jean-Guy Nadeau is an honorary professor in the Faculty of Theology at the Université de Montréal and is one of the leading experts in the field of sexual abuse by clergy, which he has been studying for many years. In 2017, he collaborated with the Centre for Child Protection at the Gregorian University of Rome. He is a former president of the International Society of Practical Theology. His most recent publication: “Une profonde blessure. Les abus sexuels dans l’Église catholique.”
